A stability release fixing 42 issues based on feedback from 4.5.0 users. Mostly around issues with Virtual Directories, resolving tilde based urls in XSLT and Media, packages, exceptions due to foreign key conflicts and sorting of Media.
Important Note:
If you extract the files using Window's built in compression tool you will need to 'UNBLOCK' the ZIP file from the Properties Dialog before doing so. Otherwise your installation may not include all required files.

Great release of Umbraco, so much quicker than 4.0.x Great having a media bin now. Nice XML schema changes makes writing XSLT even quicker!! Easy upgrading existing sites just run current xslts through upgrader and all is good.

To many little bugs in upgrading large and small sites for me with exceptions and show stoppers.
A new clean build seems to work well, but I have for 2 weeks been trying to upgrade a large 800 page site (in test) and just having loads of problems and glitches.

Normally I wouldn't hesitate to give the umbraco releases 5 stars due to the high quality of the system. But this release 4.5.x is pretty bugged judging from my own experiences and the issue tracker (I don't understand the need for XML Schema changes now, rather than wait until v5).

This version, both 4.5 and 4.5.1 have made the whole system faster.
I cannot wait for the next release.

This release is excellent, great db-performance, linq, cool ui-tree, media bin, code highlighter, new ironpython version. Hope MS will approve the Web platform installer-version soon.

I am a huge fan of Umbraco and have been using 4.1 (the web gallery release) for quite sometime without a single problem. I have done a clean install of 4.5.1 to avoid any problems. After successful install the bugs kept coming. Caching issues, xslt issues, membership library issues. IMHO I think this release is nowhere near stable yet. Stick to the previous release or wait for a stable 5.x rel.

This version is completely unusable, and from using previous versions it appears that there are a lot of bugs that need fixing before this is usable on a production website. There's lots of potential there, but this release really needs fixing if we're to stick with Umbraco.

Again, sadly to see so many people having trouble installing this release also.

After upgrading from 4.0.4.1 all of my content was no longer accessible, and the admin login account no longer worked, even though all of the data was still there. 4.5.1 looks like it is a good stability release on the clean install I did however.

I concur with hhrafn. Provide "How To" guide for Upgrade from version 4.0.3 to 4.5.1.

Good work guys, quick and nicely evolved :)
On a side note; I feel that every release should be companied with a upgrade howto, in order to assis newbies (myself inclued) :)
The simple guide: Extract the zip, then copy the following folders over your current installation:
/bin, /install, /umbraco, /umbraco_client.
Then browse to your website and follow the upgrade wizard.
Done!

Great minor version that fixes the bugs that I was having with the 4.5 release. Glad to see these were fixed so fast.
@Anardo I think the WPI edition has to get reviewed by Microsoft first, so this will be added as soon as possible.
I also prefer to install via the WPI, however it is very straight forward to install manually as well.

DON'T FORGET! - You *must* unblock the downloaded zip file before extracting!

Anardo: Installing Umbraco is really VERY easy, have a look at my screencast at bit.ly/9x206q - the WPI is under control of MS, not Umbraco corp. That being said: great release, glad bugs get fixed so fast!

Why haven't updated the Microsoft Web Platform Installer? Installing Umbraco without it is like walking in bare feet over broken glass.
Please update the Web Platform!
